Bougie Green Bean Casserole

This was one of the many casseroles made for Southern Charm’s ‘Friendsgiving’ dinner.

I wanted to upgrade the typical Green Bean Casserole with fresh green beans, and my own cream of mushroom mixture instead of that icky canned crap !

Approx 1 pound of fresh green beans, cleaned and trimmed. (They can be cut in half or left whole depending on what you prefer)

using fresh green beans makes all the difference !!

1 cup of half and half

1 T flour

1 T butter

3 T chicken or vegetable broth

2 -3 T dry white wine (can be omitted)

2 T chopped onion

1 cup roughly chopped fresh mushrooms (any kind)– reserve like ¼ cup for on top of casserole

some fresh chopped parsley just cuz

salt, pepper, red pepper flakes to taste. (red pepper flakes can be omitted if you prefer)

drizzle of olive oil, or additional 1 T of butter

Around 2 oz of Crispy Onions (I used ‘Fresh Gourmet’ since this is a bougie version)

Cook and stir on low-med until smooth, everything except the beans, olive oil drizzle, and crispy onions

Boil green beans for 5 – 7 minutes, drain. Add to the cream mixture, stir. Pour all into casserole dish or pie plate. Add additional reserved mushrooms, Drizzle olive oil over, or add another T butter. Or both!! whatever ! No rules!!

Bake at 375 for 15 minutes

Add the crispy onions and bake for additional 5 minutes
