Project Runway 8/17/23

Well I didn’t get to recap last week’s ep, but our sweet beloved Kara Saun has been eliminated. I was kind of surprised, but kind of not, due to how awful that design was. Surely she knew she would be on the chopping block for that.

I think Christian did try to warn her it wasn’t going to work.

She couldn’t seem to get away from her costumey looks, and that’s what got her.

It gets harder, the less contestants that are left, because when there’s a smaller group, they tend to bond since they’re spending so much time together in a smaller group.

Christian gives them a little pep talk, and tries to empathize with them over Kara Saun leaving, then quickly segues into ‘get over it, time for your next challenge!’

I really don’t think this dude has very much empathy, at all. He doesn’t really even try to hide it.

So moving on – next challenge is creating a look that creates two opposing styles.

So I feel like this is kind of a head gamey type of challenge. Elaine gets in there planting this shit in their head, that you’re damned if you do and you’re damned if your don’t. Women especially, tend to find themselves in this bind. Either you’re too flashy, or too boring, etc etc, and you know the drill.

Now this challenge doesn’t mean that YOU aren’t good enough.

So apparently this has an official name, of course it does. ‘Double Bind.’ It refers to women mainly, when you know, nothing we do is right. So I am getting completely where she is coming from, but I also feel like this is a little bit of a mind trap for the contestants.

This isn’t a ‘pity me’ competition, it’s a fashion competition, so I just don’t think we need this additional drama of weird new phrases.

Elaine supposedly is choosing the assignments randomly from a bag. But if it was really random and not assigned, why wouldn’t they pick them themselves? Maybe I’m being a little too suspicious.

Bishme- basic and bold

Korto- formal and casual

Rami- fitted and over sized

Prajje- elegant and edgy (this one’s my favorite, and I think maybe easiest to achieve?)

Brittany- sexy and modest (this could be a challenge)

Laurence- classic and trendy

I wish Laurence could try to be a little personable, like once in a while. She always seems so miserable.

Bishme can swap his assignment, since he was the last competition winner, but declines. I think that’s wise. They’re clearly trying to drum up more drama and animosity. You know whomever he decided to swap with, would be pissed off.

Seems like there are more 1 day challenges than 2 day challenges,

Rami’s ‘fitted and over-sized’ sounds extra difficult. But I think he can do it!

******

It’s the fabric grab. Christian is just so — extra. Why’s he dragging Rami for his Hawaiian shirt? I like it.

So they’re all now repeating this ‘Double Bind’ shit that they were told about, with the challenge. I have never heard of the phrase either until now. It’s probably going to be one of those phrases I start hearing non-stop. You know how that always happens.

Christian walks around doing his micro-managing. I really do think he tries to help. Sometimes his advice is good.

I don’t know about the hoodie/gown combo that Bishme is planning.

Korto complains she’s been called basic and safe, and does the token bitching that she’s always too much of this, and not enough of that. And now she’s added ‘boring’ to her list, she claims she was referred to as, which was never ever said. Wow, they created monsters with this shit. They have Korto all cranked up now, and nobody wants that.

Brittany’s plan sounds cool, but I’m not getting the modest part. A corset under see-through fabric. It sounds sexy and sexy to me.

Korto also complains about it. If another designer’s look isn’t up to par that should make them happy. What’s she bitching about?

Prajje complains too that hers is too sexy. “it’s a dress to wear when you want to get laid.” Well sexy is part of it, so what’s the problem? A bitch needs to get laid.

These random Tresseme plugs crack me up.

Rami had to ditch the jacket that went with his gown since he wasn’t happy with it. Korto complains about his design too. Maybe she should concentrate on her own design and stop worrying about everyone else’s. ‘Survival’ outfits do happen, since they are so rushed to come up with designs, shop, and sew them together, and fit their models, in one fucking day. She’s always so negative.

I feel like her look is ‘sexy and modest’ as Brittany’s is supposed to be. Top is sexy and pants are modest.

Runway time, and the judges are already annoying me. Elaine’s hair, Nina’s face, Brandon’s stupid snarky comments.

Brittany’s design is first and I absolutely love it. I agree not seeing actual ‘modesty’ but it’s so cute, the judges might let it go. It’s hot! I think maybe if the bottom wouldn’t have been see-through, so sexy would be the corset top and long skirt? I think it’s more ‘sexy and cute.’

Whatever, love that sheer fabric. Judges seem to love it.

Prajje is up and it’s okay. I can’t tell from the judges’ faces if they hate or love it. I feel like ‘edgy’ should have been more like a black leather moto look. Origami isn’t really ‘edgy.’ It’s difficult to do, but not an edgy look.

Laurence – Love it. So sleek and sexy, not sure about the classic/trendy though.

Rami – fitted and over sized, he gets the curvy model. The dress is cool, and it really does suit her body. It hugs her curves. He might get dragged on the ‘over sized’ part though. I think they’re wanting to eliminate him.

Bishme – basic and bold – yeah I don’t know. Bishme seems to know it’s not his best. I don’t think the hood is what I would refer to as ‘basic.’ Maybe more casual. I think he did a ‘formal and casual.’

Korto – formal and casual. To me, her design seems like something kind of out there that you would see on a runway. For me I don’t love it, but it looks kind of high fashion-esque with the skimpy top and huge baggy pants. And I don’t see the ‘formal and casual.’ She was so busy worrying that everyone else’s wasn’t meeting the criteria, and hers isn’t really either. Just sayin.’

How much does Nina love to say “one of you will be OUT.” Nina, sit down, we know.

They like Laurence and Brittany’s the best, even though she missed the modest part.

They don’t care for Bishme’s (guest judge likes it) and Rami’s is kind of half and half. They also don’t like Prajje’s nor Korto’s, who’s kind of losing her shit, and complains about mixed messages, then goes into her life story. Does she know she’s on a competition show and these ate literally judges? She cannot take criticism, at all.

Laurence wins the challenge, I disagree, should have been Brittany. She doesn’t seem to care, and is happy to have been a fave.

Korto is out, which I kind of didn’t expect, but someone had to go. She’s trying to be cool, but she’s pretty mad.

When Christian comes in, she starts going off, and defending her design, which is kind of odd. I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone do this before, when eliminated. Aside from last season, I hadn’t watched since Christian’s season, so maybe a designer acted like this before. I hope not.

MY DESIGN WAS GREAT AND PERFECT !!! YOURS ALL SUCKED ASS!!

She’s a strange one, and I’m not going to miss her. No one said she’s a bad designer. Again, woman, it’s a competition. Like don’t be a sore loser. She goes on about her greatness, for what seems like forever. Such a bad look. Maybe she shouldn’t have been worried about what Brittany and Ramey were doing, and concentrated on her own design. Too bad so sad.

Everyone is looking at her, so uncomfortable, thinking shut the fuck up, lady.

Please stop talking...

Maybe this shitty attitude is why she’s going home.

Good riddance. Wow. How embarrassing.
