These cocktails are freaking EVERYWHERE on the Bravo and Housewife shows lately — I think I’m seeing them, and tasting them, in my sleep.
I’m going to go ahead and brag that I drank them ON OCCASION – they’re not an every day drink either – before they were Bravo- trendy.
Side note: They ARE supposed to be a sophisticated and elegant cocktail. I like them for after dinner with my dessert or AS dessert. Someone needs to tell Housewives that they’re not drinks to go out and get fucking sloshed and sloppy drunk on! Leave it to these bitches to ruin a once-bougie and refined cocktail. (Ahem OC ladies – talkin’ to YOU!!) Also there’s certain places to NOT order them at. I would say an establishment with a dead animal head on the wall would be one. Again, Ahem OC ladies, not to pick on you but,,, come ON. Pretty sure that bartender spit in every single one of them. Okay moving on…
This is the semi-classic version, with a few optional ideas to change it up a little !!
These measurements should fill up an average martini glass, with a little left over. So if you’re making two, I would double it.
Brew your espresso or high quality (not Folgers) strong coffee, cool to room temp and place in fridge for at least an hour to chill. Or you can buy the premade espresso or coffee to save a step,
1 cup or 8 oz of cold espresso or strong coffee- (you can use decaf if you’re a big sis like me, and can’t do caffeine in the evening unless you want to be wide awake all night long)
2 oz vodka. For another flavor layer, use vanilla vodka. You could also use flavored coffee.
1 oz simple syrup (boil equal parts sugar and water and cool. Add a few coffee beans and/or a cinnamon stick to it if you’re feeling CRAZY for a little extra flavor layer)
1 oz Kahlua, or any coffee liqueur- OR again if you’re feeling crazy and want another flavor layer, a CHOCOLATE liqueur, (sad news to report – Godiva stopped making their chocolate liqueur) OR even Chambord, which is a raspberry flavored liqueur. Don’t be boring!! Also side note, you can omit the additional flavored liqueur and the world will not end, It will still be good. You can even add a small splash of milk or milk substitute for the flavor and a little creaminess.
Ice cubes for shaking in cocktail shaker
Put all except garnish in a cocktail shaker and shake shake shake!!!! Pour into martini glass of course!!
Optional – For Garnish: 3 coffee beans or if you did the chocolate liqueur, you could garnish with shaved chocolate!! LIVE ON THE EDGE!!
ENJOY this beautiful elegant drink! You don’t need four, and please don’t act like a Housewife and start screaming at someone for no reason whatsoever.
