Below Deck SY 6/19/23 – Episodes 1 & 2

Saga continues about the cake that Daisy INSISTED on eating and distributing to the crew before they made sure the guests didn’t want another slice.

And he did, maybe this was production-induced, maybe it wasn’t.

I don’t think Daisy has ever been with a chef that was this good before, honestly.

Mads manages to locate the most miniscule piece that probably was already eaten on, but whatever. Guess that was better than having to own that the crew devoured half of the cake in ten minutes.

By the way, I was super curious about this cake. You would have thought, being so delish, that someone would have asked her what kind of cake it was. I’ve never seen the crew that excited about leftover cake on any BD episode, ever. And they frequently do make cakes since there are a lot of birthday celebrations.

Anyway I consulted with the Google Gods, and I think it was a Cipriani Meringue Cake, which would make sense with the blow torching of the icing. I’ve been looking for an inspo to post a recipe, so I THINK I might give it a try. That’s my plan anyway. Here is the recipe I think I’m going to use.

Daisy might want to consider getting her head out of her ass at some point. While the cake debacle is going down, thanks to her, she’s in Colin’s room convincing him to stay with her despite his annoyance over her and Gary hooking up a year ago.

Colin points out how you don’t often hear Daisy say she’s sorry or admit to wrong doing. True dat !!

We’ve seen Glenn nicely tell her things that need improvement, and she gets super defensive and starts the blame game.

Now, I guess since we’re kind of short on crew drama this season, meaning everyone seems to be doing their job, and doing it well, (it’s actually the heads of dept that seem to be lacking, and causing all of the messiness) we now have to manufacture a lack of work ethic on Alex, and recycle the exact same scenario as earlier in the season, when Alex’s night shift duties were slightly lacking.

Chase bitches to Gary, then Gary handles it unlike a typical manager would, and Chase gets pissed off. I don’t get his shock factor when the exact same fucking thing happened previously. Thought those two had chatted, and decided to handle any complaints amongst themselves?? But, here we are again. I feel like I’m having deja vu or stroked out, or something. Chase is mad he’s coming off as a tattle tale bitch, when he does sound like a tattle tale bitch. Just clean up the damned crumbs.

Gary is so unprofessional in the way he handles everything this season. He sort of ridicules Chase for speaking up. Alex refers to them both as having small dick energy. Agreed. Especially Gary.

******

Lucy can’t attend her graduation ceremony, and she’s bumming but understands it’s her choice to be a yachtie. Daisy is planning a surprise party later that evening for her. I love that!! I love these stews’ rapport and friendly caring camaraderie.

I just couldn’t see any of these girls going for Chase. Ileisha gives him accolades in her yap but promises she’s a loyal girlfriend to her guy at home. I think they would be an odd couple. I can’t see any of these girls going for Chase. It’s so cute how she actually laughs at his jokes.

To me, Daisy is so loving the Gary/Colin drama. She just cannot get enough of it. Sadly, she seems to really believe Gary cares, and has feelings for her. Every stinkin’ viewer on the planet knows he is looking at her as a prize to be had, and would quickly discard her, if she agreed to stop whatevering with Colin, and be Gary’s whatever.

I mean, the way he goes back and forth between professing his ‘feelings’ to Daisy, then turns around two seconds later, and says the exact same shit to Mads, is disturbing, to say the least.

For Lucy’s makeshift Grad Ceremony, they even contact her family, and have them on FaceTime. I think I’m going to cry. She calls this the nicest thing anyone has ever done for her. I love this for her.

They leave for their typical drunken night out, and Daisy demands that she ride alone in the van with Gary and Colin. I thought she was joking. And then when I realized she wasn’t joking, I thought she was going to try to mediate, to get them talking, and reassure Colin that they didn’t mean to be deceitful. I don’t know what exactly I expected, but I didn’t expect for her to just say the stupid thing about losing their focus, or whatever it was. They seem not interested in what she’s rambling. It seems like one person in the van has lost their (work) focus and it’s not Colin nor Gary.

Gary: “How are you feeling Colin?”

I really don’t want to admit I’m just messin’ with you and Daisy.

Gary sounds so condescending to me when he says Colin’s name. you can tell he’s just playing games, because he’s sitting there looking so guilty.

Daisy: “I wanted my time with MY boys in the van…”

Her boys. This shit is so going to her head. Colin is such a pussy. Wouldn’t this be his opportunity to address with Gary, his constant inappropriate flirting with her, and only suddenly seeming interest, when they started their fling.

Meanwhile the other van is popping, and there’s a group make out with Alex Lucy and Mads.

Wonder how Daisy and ‘her boys’ are doing

Glenn really needs a life. Guess I don’t blame him for not really wanting to hang with the crew.

Maybe on the last night out, he’ll get off the boat.

Check Mate please.

Gary apologizes to Colin for lying, and goes over again the whole sordid thing where Daisy asked him not to say anything. Again missed opportunity for Colin to bring up his relentless flirting with her while fucking around with Mads every night.

I kept the secret for a whole entire year, Bru. Where’s my ribbon??

Gary gives himself props for keeping the promise to Daisy, except he forgets he outed the whole thing on camera a few days earlier. So yeah, good for you Gary, you honored her wishes for a year, then as soon as she showed interest in someone else, you decide to make it a whole big thing, and pretend like you’re into her.

Wow, dude what a STAND UP GUY !!!

I can’t with him.

Colin seems sort of indifferent with his little speech, then he does kind of loosen up.

Mads confides in Alex about how annoying Gary is, yet it’s getting kind of tedious listening to her, since she keeps going back for more. What she doesn’t realize, just like he’s doing to Daisy, is that he’s faking this intense love interest in her. She acts like she doesn’t care, but I think she kind of does.

He has these girls all googly-eyed, (even though Mads pretends not to be) and he’s literally playing both of them. So bored to tears of her continuing with “I made the wrong choice.” Yet, she keeps making it.

Even though I know I fucked up, I’m sticking with it.

Lucy is drunk and gets in on the Gary summer lovin’ for a minute, then she proceeds to slam Alex’s head on the table when he’s leaning on her in the crew mess.

Gary’s on a rampage and has a tantrum because Mads dares call her mom and is not paying attention to him. I know he’s drunk, but people’s true colors do tend to be on display, when their intoxicated. I’m sure he seriously was pissed off. He calls her ‘pathetic.’ What a fucking baby.

Chase and Ileisha canoodle in the galley. The boyfriend, if he’s still around at this point, may not be too happy to see that. Chase kind of presses his luck, by asking Ileisha if he can sleep with her, since Colin and Daisy are in his room.

I guess it would suck to be a dude, and have everyone around you hooking up.

She tells him no. He sleeps in the galley.

Daisy wakes up, and thinks Colin is Gary, so that’s kind of whacked. Colin takes that better than I think he should have. He’s coming off as quite the pushover in my opinion.

At what point is he going to get the message do we think?

She admits she keeps seeing Gary’s face. That’s pretty ballsy. Colin gets miffed, but gets over it.

When they discuss, total on brand, Daisy blames him and Gary. Like she could have left out the part that she keeps seeing his face. Who does that??

Gary apologized to Mads for calling her pathetic. She pretends to still be pissed. They act like a bunch of twelve year old’s.

It’s so creepy and pervy, how Gary always drills Daisy about her and Colin’s bed time romps.

Daisy seems to think it’s cute though, and thinks she owes him an explanation and recap.

Just wondering about every detail of what took place last night with Colin.

Chase and Alex discuss Gary, and how much of a useless manager he is. I don’t know what this guy gets paid, but I’m sure it’s way too much.

Daisy keeps referring to all of this as ‘this mess she’s in’ when it’s all really quite simple.
Ignore Gary, and his love bombing BS.

New round of guests arrive, and there’s an almost boat crash drama.

On to Ep # 2 of the night.

***Episode 2***

Ileisha’s sushi – like WOW.

I hope Colin has been watching back his pissy comments to Ileisha, and feels like a fucking dumb ass.

Look at this shit!

Not to mention, the most normal and least dramatic chef of all Below Deck time. Whatever she’s asked to do, she nails it with NO WHINING AND COMPLAINING WHATSOEVER. NONE.

I just whipped this up, so SUCK IT Colin!!!

Colin complains in his yap about Gary seeming to be pursuing Daisy after he gave his ‘blessing.’ Maybe he’s overthinking he says? No Colin, how dumb are you? Speak up already. He was so pissed about the big hook-up secret from a year ago, yet not about how he keeps aggressively flirting with her, now, in the present.

Daisy’s sister, also a yachtie is dropping by. The stews forget that there are these pesky guests, and they are wanting more beverages. The nerve. Guest, Tim, bumps into Glenn of course and asks “are there service people?”

Mads is yapping away, getting the boys’ attention like she likes, and Lucy is literally just standing there. Glenn is pissed off and I don’t blame him.

He reprimands them for both being downstairs at the same time. They know they fucked up. Daisy takes a break, and they forget about the dang guests. Then again, Daisy keeps forgetting about them too, so it probably wouldn’t have made much of a difference anyway.

Daisy returns and Mads flat out lies, that she was just grabbing cups for a minute. Daisy makes excuses for her, and says they can’t be with the guests non-stop. True, they don’t need to stand there and hover, but they should be checked on every 5 – 10 minutes. Duh.

After being told that, you would think the chief stew, would be super conscientious about tending to them, but, no, she has her head in the clouds, over these two dudes after her.

She misjudges the time they were last checked on, and they are in need of service. Let’s not piss the chick off with huge knuckles.

It’s a good thing they’re not assholes. Glenn questions when Daisy was up last, since she’s ya know, she’s just standing here. By this point it’s probs been like 15 minutes. She gets lippy with Glenn of course, because she’s always right, and can’t be told anything, and Glenn WAS right. They did need service.

She goes up all in a huff, then sees them getting their drinks. Like wow girl. Get with the program.

Caption shows 17 minutes since they were checked on last. Even in a restaurant, you’re usually approached within 5 or 10 of getting your meal, by your server.

She does realize it’s been a lot longer than five minutes. Good thing these are easy going guests. Maybe she should invest in a watch, and actually time between check-ins for service.

Wonder who she’ll blame for this. Probably the guests for having the nerve to want more wine. Or her watch for being broken, or Gary for existing. Who knows.

Glenn will be taking the guests into France for their French-themed dinner. Maybe this will make them forget about the shitty service they’ve been getting. This tip should be split between Glenn and Ileisha. Everyone else seems to think that THEY’RE on vacation.

These guests are so sweet. They’re too hot in the breakfast area, and would like to move, but don’t want the stews who aren’t really doing anything anyway, to do more work. Daisy is in laundry texting her sister about how excited she is for her to experience the ‘Colin/Gary are so into me’ fun.

Two guys want me – BITCH!!

This poor guy, Tim, who seems to be the designated one to locate the crew, when they forget they have a job, asks the stews if they can move to the upper deck to catch the breeze.

He insists on them grabbing their plates to be helpful. Daisy tells him not to, but they still do it. Glenn freaks about this, but I’ll take Daisy’s side on this one. She did tell him not to worry, they would do it.

I don’t think it’s a big deal that they grabbed their plates if they offered to do it. He’s sort of doing the Sandy Hover this season, but I can kind of see why. Daisy has her head up her ass.

Gary consults with Lucy to bitch about Madison, and Lucy’s had the shits of it. Leave the girl alone. She’s not your fucking therapist dude. Her degree is in sports management, (is that really a degree?) not therapy.

Gary then gets aggressively flirty with Daisy in laundry, and she encourages it. You can’t really argue that one. Glenn again has to remind Daisy to check on the guests. He’s being more patient than I think he should be. Sandy Captain Sandy, or Lee would be losing their shit. One would think she’d be extra on it, after multiple times of getting reminded, and she IS the chief stew, but nope. Still lolly gagging around, texting, and letting Gary accost her in laundry.

Now she’s making out with Colin down in his area. What is happening right now? I’m sure she’ll have a plethora of excuses at the reunion, and it will be all Colin’s and Gary’s fault that she sucks.

******

Why is Gary suck a dick to Chase? The kid is polite, respectful, and a decent worker, with a mostly good attitude. Gary is me giving me Kate Chastain vibes. Seemingly acting like a douche for no reason. Just for the satisfaction of picking on someone. Way to motivate people.

Sails up, and en route to France. The guests wonder what it’s like for the crew downstairs when they’re heeling. That’s nice of them to be concerned.

I wonder how the peasants are getting on??

They arrive, and there’s like a twenty minute docking scene.

Gary and Daisy take the guests to walk around and explore. Gary takes this opportunity, as usual to corner Daisy and harass her about Colin. Daisy doesn’t dare shut it down.

Oh stop Gary !! I mean, please don’t!!!

Getting treated to Gary being a sushi girl with Colin on guitar. Everyone is telling him to shower. I would hope he would already know that. How much is he enjoying this right now?

I think we all agree we would not east sushi off of Gary. I don’t think I would east sushi off of anyone.

The guests go to bed, and will be skipping all of the undocking and redocking at night drama.

******

It’s sister arrival day. Daisy asks Glenn’s permission after she’s already made plans for her to arrive.

Guests get treated to their last Ileisha meal, sadly. The food just doesn’t stop coming and all looks amazing. Other chefs always bitch about making eggs and breakfast items. Most of them don’t even have a plan, and have the guests give specific egg orders, then proceed to bitch about having to make eight different eggs. Not Ileisha. Ileisha has a plan.

The lone dude guest (glad it was the dude, just sayin’) slams his head into the glass sliding door, thinking it’s open. That’s gotta be embarrassing.

I didn’t even see the door there!!

The ladies start laughing then realize that he’s bleeding. Daisy is downstairs chatting away about her sister, with her radio off, I assume, as Gary is radioing for ice. Later she complains that someone could have came and gotten her, however she’s missing the part that the guys were docking the fucking boat, and perhaps didn’t have time to do her job at that moment.

I get it she’s excited to see her sister, but holy shit, do your job!

I’m sure she’ll get the radio message about getting in line, to accept their big fat money envelope though.

Tim has to go to Glenn to request ice for his head. Honestly, these guests would have every right to bitch about service on their way out, yet they don’t. I’ve actually never seen guests ignored for twenty bloody minutes (no pun intended) before.

Can I bother Daisy for some ice??

Glenn retrieves Daisy, who must be exhausted since her mouth hasn’t stopped moving.

She makes excuses in her yap, and blames the guys for not coming to get her.

She doesn’t listen to her radio while docking. Since when is that a thing? She asks if everyone is okay now. It’s a little late for that.

Daisy knows she’s fucked, and she has her flimsy justifications at the ready. Now she claims that can’t always ‘hear’ the radio. She said two seconds ago, she wasn’t listening, since they were docking.

Glenn immediately calls her out on that. Like just own it Daisy, and say you’re sorry. It was the second time these guests were ignored on this charter for 15 – 20 minutes, and there is really no good excuse for the chief stew to be this lackadaisical.
