We’re still on Tumi making zero sense in her desperation to annoy Nat.
Team Tumi people, come on. And no, it’s not a black/white thing. Even though her race has been mentioned several times in this episode.
She insults and refuses to acknowledge all of the work Nat did, made an incoherent comment about the boat, claimed she was insulting ‘the boat’ then waves her hands, and says “that’s it!!”
She keeps stroking her hair, and scratching her head, that might be a nervous tick.
Preference sheet meeting. Still scratching.
Next round of guests have a vegan, and weather sucks ass. Tumi is doing a lot of overcompensating grins at the meeting.
Kyle arrives, who was of course strategically placed this season, to be the catalyst, since he and Nat had not exactly hit it off last season.
If I remember correctly, in the beginning of the season, they did. Then when Kyle and chief stew Natasha began developing this very odd attachment and affection towards each other, given the short time they were acquainted, he was given preferential treatment.
Kyle claims in his yap “Captain Sandy wanted him back.” I’m 99.9% sure that’s not even true. The captains do not cast the crew people. The crew is carefully curated, to create the most drama and conflict.
After watching last season, and how lazy and what a poor work ethic that Kyle has, to say nothing of how he faked his foot injury, and Sandy Captain Sandy ‘wanted him back?’ Oh Okay. Stop playin’ with the viewers.
I know I mentioned this before, but I’m mentioning it again. It’s the chief stew thing.
On all of the seasons of Below Deck, it was always eluded that the chief stew position took a number of years, of starting on the bottom as third, blood, sweat and tears, hard work and ass busting. Dramatic endless days stuck in the laundry room, while being harassed by the meanest chief stew ever, years of stewing to even think of being considered for the chief stew position.
That’s sort of the impression that Kate and Hannah left us under? Especially Kate.
Am I wrong? Maybe but probably not. Maybe the rules have changed. Now it seems like all of these ‘chief stews’ were not only stews for a very short time, but also brand new to the industry. It’s kind of funny though, being not a Kate Chastain fan, at all, because it makes her look kind of silly, for all of her bragging about being a chief stew, and she always made it seem like such a prestigious position that was so difficult to attain, and prancing around the boat like she owned the shit, and was running the whole show.
Maybe they want these really new and inexperienced chief stews because it creates more drama.
Kyle and Nat’s greeting is really intense. They seem excited to see each other. For now. Also. after he talked shit on her toi Tumi.
I forgot about this: They flash on that stupid ‘head of housekeeping’ comment (no such title) that Kyle used with a guest to reference Nat when she was off of the boat, because he felt too important (thanks to Tash) to do a simple housekeeping task that a guest had requested. It was very degrading to Nat andI didn’t blame her for telling him off.
Tumi meets with the stews. Not sure why she’s so into ranks. Hiistory has shown, especially in the last handful of seasons, ranks are a bad idea in the interior, if you want everyone to get along. The most cohesive interior teams have been with everyone on the same level.
I guess I answered my own question.
She makes Kyle her second, and says it’s a given. How so??
Nat is a harder worker, and is also great with the guests.
New deckie on board, and he’s French, so that’s a new nationality for a deckhand.
Guests arrive looking pissed off because it’s cold and rainy. I also get really cranky when on vacay, and the weather sucks. I wouldn’t be ear to ear grin either, paying this much for a vacation and not being able to leave the dock.
So it’s weird when Sandy mutters as they begin to approach, “this is gonna suck.” “Where are the smiles?”
Why would she say “this is gonna suck” with an ugly scowl on her face?
Sandy, your racism is showing. And I don’t like to go there unless I feel like it’s valid. Viewers saying the bad vibe with Tumi, not racist, in my opinion. She made strange comments within ten minutes of being on the boat. Nothing to do with her race.
The weather sucks as the trip is beginning. Didn’t Sandy also say it’s going to be nice later and the following day??
But still, “This is gonna suck??” About the entire charter? Seems like a weird blanket statement.
The guests want their lunch pronto. They don’t want no stinkin’ cheese. They don’t even want it to graze from while lunch is being prepared.
Jack is annoyed at being rushed. Tumi calls his cheeseboard pathetic. She also makes a strange comment about firing Nat. Since when does the chief stew have the authority to fire a stew??
Guests feel that their meal is not ‘creative’ enough. The vegan gives her meal a ‘6’ which Tumi conveys to Jack.
It’s a vegan meal. There’s only so much you can do with vegetables.
Kyle speaks with them to review the dinner menu. Also, since when do the guests critique and change the dinner menu?
Kyle, of course not exactly a detailed oriented guy, communicates to Jack incorrectly.
I thought a came across an article that he had proposed to someone shortly after the season was over last year? I don’t think it’s this new dude he’s talking about, since he doesn’t mention an engagement.
There was a lot of speculation that he seems to move really fast and thinks he’s immediately in love when he meets someone new.
That would explain that Frank dude, a guest, that he claimed to be head over heels for, after knowing him for two days.
Also explains his and Tash’s immediate ‘soul mate’ rhetoric and some deep connection, and whatever. Tash was completely mesmerized by his love bombing.
Nat tells chef that Tumi was bitching about him.
I didn’t even realize that there was a dude on board in the guest party. Thought it was all chicks. Don’t think he’s even gotten a word in. Perhaps he’s not allowed to talk. It’s weird isn’t it? A whole gaggle of girls as if it’s a girls’ trip, with one dude. Maybe the threw a tantrum that he wasn’t invited. I know someone like that.
The vegan’s dinner gets screwed up, it seems, due to Kyle’s miscommunication. She then realizes that the requested lobster dish was her starter? I don’t fucking know. Is lobster ‘vegan?’
Tumi relays this to Jack, and accuses them of being drunk, which does not seem to be the case to me, and explains the confusion.
Maybe she was trying to cover for Kyle.
Jack is now annoyed with Tumi, and is seemingly finding fault with whatever she says. She’s trying to explain that the guest was confused and it was explained, now all is well, but he still cops an attitude, similar to her initial energy towards Nat. If she can dish it out, she needs to learn to take it. Jack accuses her of not being on top of things. Which I thought was funny because that’s sort of what she said to Nat upon arriving. Just in a confusing passive aggressive way, that made no sense.
So she’s rubbed two people the wrong way already, two people that she needs to have a good rapport with. She again attempts to explain this lobster pasta, very important life or death dilemma, but he’s just over it. He says he’s pissed she’s now blaming the guests.
I think Jack is being a little harsh, but again, she chose to come in hot with her weird negativity, so she’s dealing with the repercussions of that.
She wants respect, even though she showed extreme disrespect and zero gratitude immediately upon arrival.
Tumi for a third time. approaches Jack, this time with receipts to smooth it all over, and make amends. He’s not interested in her approval. He knows what he’s doing. He’s an excellent chef. He doesn’t the chief toilet bowl cleaner to validate him. and give him a pat on the back.
The best thing for her to do is to let it go at this point. Wait until morning. New day, sun’s up, not exhausted. That convo did go a little better.
Hot tub PJ party ensues, and they’re having huge snacks directly following dinner. Not judging. Maybe more time elaspsed that what it seemed.
Kyle did ‘The Kyle’ since he was trained by Natasha, and went to bed without cleaning up from the party.
Nat of course, is pissed and tattles to Tumi, who does not care. She thinks it’s better he got to bed at three, instead of talking maybe a half hour to have everything put away and the boat tidy.
Sounds familiar, how Tash took it easy on him too, remember?
So we basically have a rerun of last season. All we need is a lovesick chef crying in the bathroom.
Kyle has no hustle whatsoever. Nat and Tumi argue.
Whatever, this is seeming mad fucking over produced.
