Opens with Kristina on the phone with her mom, and upset about last week. Judges were hard on her, and Chasity it thought.
Final four (ladies!)
The designers are meeting Christian and Nina at the rooftop of Rock Center. Stunning views of the city. First time all girls in the final four! I love that, I do have to wonder if it’s by ‘design’ though? Not that I’m complaining. Since I haven’t been following it since Christian was on I think, I’ll have to look into how many times women won verses guys. Just out of curiousity.
They are to make something exciting that would be suitable for Fashion Week, sort of inspired by the NYC scenery, and showcasing their brands and area of expertise in this next ‘wave of fashion’ as they put it. They’re not given a specific assignment, as to what sort of style to create. That opens the door for whatever. I would like to see a short dress. Something not formal, but fun, cute and casual. I think they may be looking for designs that are the up and coming, and not necessarily being worn yet here in America. Maybe. I’m trying to sound like I know what I’m talking about.
They’re getting a seamstress to help. Yay that will be helpful. It’s like a chef having a sous chef!
They’re sketching on the roof top on this beautiful summer day (which is making me really irritated…) and getting inspired by the architecture of the buildings and the scenery surrounding them.
Off to shopping, and they get to choose their models. Christian doesn’t like the black or navy fabric that Chasity and Shantall chose. Wasn’t I saying last week, why not emerald or turquoise ? There’s been a lot of blue, and some green, I think, but never those two shades. Coral is doing nude. NO one wants to do fun colors for some reason and Christian is pushing that, which I agree with. Shantall is going with a gender neutral look, which is pretty smart of her. Coral is doing nude, and he’s not liking that either.
Kristina gets pissed at Christian for getting in her head by trying to change her mind about doing street wear and blue. He wants her to design a glamours gown. She shoots him down – “Christian, no, you cannot do that.” Assuming she is still going with her original idea. He shouldn’t do that, especially on a challenge where they are to create something that represents them. I get a little confused with the judges’ rhetoric sometimes. I’ve heard criticism for doing the same styles, and criticism for creating a design, that’s outside of their usual aesthetic. Having said that, I am seeing that she tends to do the same thing a lot, (baggy pants and long tops, that you really have to have a typical “model” build to look good in.) Most women are not 6 feet tall, and weigh 110 lbs. And her fabric choices are often similar.
They are meeting with a CFDA fashion mentor/branding expert, and a publicist in the fashion industry about launching their “brand” and what makes their creations unique. They meet with each designer individually to get ideas and inspiration about their personal brands. Looks like Chasity did do, sort of jade green previously. I don’t recall this one. I feel like this has been going on forever! Glad we’re down to the finale soon! I’m sure it’s out there somewhere who won, but I don’t wanna know !!!!!
As I was wondering where the seamstresses were – they entered ! I wish I could sew. I can so not sew.
Christian is going around, and doing his Christian thing. I wouldn’t be sad seeing him replaced next season. Not sure if that’s a popular or unpopular opinion.
I can’t believe that Coral has never won a challenge. She is doing her macrame design again, which IS her signature thing. I was expecting Christian to complain, but he compliments her that this design is different from her others.
They’re all extra nervous. When they do the flashes from the beginning, you can see some of them have lost weight, (not that they needed it) from all of the stress, and long days. (& celery juice breakfasts)
Christian thinks Kristina’s design is a lot like her others. She does love her bra- like halter tops with a long shirt over.
Models are in for fittings. Shantall is as usual behind, but however always manages to pull it out at the last minute ! And always fabulous. She’s one of those people that work better under stress.
Looks like no one went with a cute short dress like I wanted. Weren’t they listening to me yelling at my TV?
So not loving Kristina’s. At all. And I hate to be critical of them because they’re all so amazing. She looks to me like – I don’t even know – I was going to say she went shopping at a thrift store- but I usually find amazing things when I go to thrift stores ! It’s not together yet, maybe it will get better.
Christian tells her to add something more ‘technical.’
Next day, Runway Day, and it’s the last morning of ‘celery juicing.’ I know it’s good for you, but it looks so gross! They cheers with these glasses of what looks like slime. At least they’re in champagne glasses. That helps a LITTLE.
Christian compares Kristina’s design to picnic ware. Kristina has no idea what he means, as she’s not an American. Clearly gingham table cloths aren’t a thing in Russia. She’s like “okay whatever.” I feel like looking like a picnic basket isn’t a compliment. I’m still not feeling hers. It’s even complete with a lunch bag.
Shantall still sewing at the 11th hour, but hers is probably going to be the best. Christian harasses Chasity if her model can walk, and she tells him to get lost.
(Last) Runway Time !!
They loved them all, and can’t decide who to eliminate so ALL FOUR STAY FOR FASHION WEEK !!!
I loved Nina’s glittery purple dress !!!
